Minor Surgery

The practice is equipped to perform a small range of minor surgical procedures at the surgery. You will need to see the doctor in the first instance who will assess your problem.

Non-NHS Services

Some services we provide are not covered by the NHS, such as private certificates, passport applications, medical reports and some examinations. A full list of these services with the current BMA approved fee is displayed in reception.

Ladies

It is advisable that you attend for a routine cervical smear test every three years (provided they remain negative). Please make an appointment with the practice nurse. You will be automatically informed of the result with advice on what to do in the case of any abnormality being detected.

If you have a repeat prescription for the oral contraceptive pill you will need regular yearly reviews with the doctor. You will need to see the practice nurse after six months to check on blood pressure and any side effects.

Practice nurses

We have two part-time practice nurses who are able to provide a range of nursing services such as dressings, ear syringes, immunisations, injections and cervical smears. Each nurse has special areas of expertise covering:

• Diabetic care
• Travel vaccination advice
• Childhood immunisation
• Asthma care
• IHD care
• COPD care

The practice nurses are able to advise on common illnesses, injuries, diet, lifestyle changes and stopping smoking. Female patients may like to discuss contraception and menopausal problems. However, nurses are unable to issue medication without further discussion with the doctor. If they feel unable to help they will direct you to someone who can.

District nurses

The District Nursing team is able to provide skilled nursing care for people who require care at home. The service is available every day of the year depending on need.

Health Visitors

The Health Visitor is a specialist in health promotion and prevention of ill health in individuals and families. They cover education, screening and support. Advice is relevant and tailored to individual needs.

Midwife

The midwife provides care at all stages of pregnancy. She will be the main point of contact and source of advice until the baby is born. The doctors is always on hand should the need arise for intervention.

Physiotherapist

The Physiotherapist is available to see patients at the surgery on Thursday afternoons following referral from the doctor.

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
